About the RCS

The RCS is an international educational charity. We work to engage people in the modern Commonwealth through our range of debates, youth projects and educational activities. Founded in 1868, our home is now the Commonwealth Club, a contemporary members’ club and events venue in the heart of London.

An INTERNATIONAL CHARITY with a remit to promote international understanding across the Commonwealth, especially among young people, the RCS has an impressive portfolio of charitable activities. These range from one of the world’s oldest and largest english writing competitions, with some 40,000 annual entries from schoolchildren around the Commonwealth, to an innovative youth leadership programme.

These days, the RCS is also one of the most open and affordable MEMBERS’ CLUBS in London. Our members come from diverse backgrounds, ranging from long-serving diplomats interested in international affairs to young professionals looking for a stylish central London location to work and relax.

We remain the leading LONDON VENUE for discussing subjects of Commonwealth interest with a programme of high-profile international speakers. Our versatile facilities can also be hired by non-members, with scope to provide private dining for small groups to large conferences. All proceeds from venue hire go towards the RCS’s charitable activities.
