Does your organisation have a network of people who would be interested in taking part in a wider debate about the future of the Commonwealth? Why not organise a Commonwealth Consultation, pehaps working with local partner organisations in your area?
What is a Commonwealth Consultation?
An open discussion, organised by your organisation, about the future of the Commonwealth among members of your network and other invited guests. We suggest that you ask 2-3 key speakers to kick off the discussions (e.g. government officials, diplomats, academics, activists, local business people), and the RCS can help with this if needed. We will also be able to put you in touch with local partners who might also like to get involved.
Who should take part?
The size, format and timing of each Commonwealth Consultation is very flexible, and depends on the capabilities of your organisation and the scope of your network. As the organiser of a Commonwealth Consultation, you decide who to invite.
How will the results be used?
What you discuss will be fed into the interim recommendations we present to Heads of Government at their Trinidad and Tobago meeting in November. But don’t worry if you miss this deadline – we will still be collecting material until January 2010 when our full report will be published. This is your network’s chance to help shape your Commonwealth in the 21st century. All we ask is that you write a report of your discussions, or record them on tape or video if you can, and send them through to us at the RCS.
Is there financial support available?
To help facilitate your Commonwealth Consultation, the RCS will be able to provide a limited amount of financial support. If you do require assistance with the costs of venue hire, local transport for speakers, light refreshments etc, you may submit a request for funding.
